Snipes gets 33 to get 1,000 in Marquette’s rout of MEL
Adrenna Snipes’ milestone night showcased more than just the scoring prowess of the Marquette Catholic Explorers sophomore.
Snipes lit up the Metro-East Lutheran Knights for 33 points in 52-24 Prairie State Conference girls basketball victory Tuesday night in Alton.
The game was stopped after Snipes got to 28 and she was honored at midcourt for reaching 1,000 points in just her 53rd game with the Explorers. The scoring achievement came in a triple-double performanc for Snipes, who finished with 10 rebounds and 10 steals along with her season-high scoring night. She sits a 1,005 points.
Snipes made 13 of 26 shots from the field, including 0 of 6 from 3-point range, and 7 of 17 free throws. She was the lone Explorer to score more than four points in the rout. Marquette shot 33 percent (20 of 60) from the field. The Explorers went 3 of 25 from the arc and 9 of 23 from the line.
Marquette has won six in a row to improve to 18-5 while winning 10 of its last 11 games. MEL is 3-14.
