Breast Cancer Awareness
Advisors - Becky Schultz
The Breast Cancer Awareness Club, or BCA, is an ever-growing group of students dedicated to raising money and awareness for breast and other cancers. The girls who founded the BCA at Marquette did so because cancer had touched their lives in different ways and they wanted to make a difference in working towards a cure. We began in 2008 with 11 members and have grown tremendously over the years. We continue to make significant contributions towards helping cancer patients and their families and caregivers cope with such a life-altering disease. We hold several bake sales throughout the year and organize various student events throughout the year.
Our biggest and most popular event is our annual Volley for the Cure, where Marquette guys face off against our Marquette volleyball team in the ultimate battle of the sexes! The ladies remain in the lead with wins against our most competitive gentlemen, proving that girl power is not something to be taken lightly!
Our final event of the year takes place away from school at the annual Relay for Life - Riverbend, an inspirational and meaningful evening organized by the American Cancer Society. All of the proceeds raised throughout the year go towards our Relay for Life team goal. We hope to continue to raise our own standards! The American Cancer Society is a wonderful organization and maybe the best part of donating to this particular organization is that almost all the money raised stays right here in the Metro East area! Money raised throughout the year go towards programs like transporting cancer patients to and from doctor visits, organizing days of beauty where cancer patients are treated to some pampering, educational programs to help newly diagnosed patients find the resources they need, and many more.
Thanks to all those who have supported us in our fight to eradicate this horrible disease! We appreciate your support and hope you will consider continuing to help our group raise money towards a cure!
